On Saturday, September 8, 2012, at 12:34 AM the Bellefonte Fire Department was dispatched to a building fire at 110 E. High Street, the location of the Do De Hotel.
Bellefonte Fire Chief 101 arrived at the location and reported heavy smoke showing from the 1st and 2nd floors of the building. The Chief immediately upgraded the call to a 2nd alarm and requested that Alpha Fire Company Truck 516 be dispatched from State College.
When 516 arrived, the responding crew of firefighters were sent to Cherry Lane to evacuate any remaining residents on the block. Following the evacuation, the Alpha crew began to check adjacent buildings and found a smoke condition with possible extension of the fire into the Court House Annex. At this time Alpha Fire Company Aerial Ladder 527 was dispatched. The crew on 527 assisted the 516 crew with stretching fire hoses into the Annex to protecting it from any extension of the fire.
The two crews were split up after being relieved from the Annex. Half were sent to personnel staging for reserve. The other half prepared to staff Tower 516 for a master stream operation because of the size of the fire. Once the majority of the fire was extinguished the crew in staging was assigned to enter the Garmin Theater where they discovered fire throughout the 3rd floor. They assisted with opening up the floor for ventilation and extinguishing that fire.
Units 516 and 527 and the assigned crews operated for just over 5 hours before returning to service in the Centre Region.
This was the second two alarm fire in as many nights and the fifth for the company in eight days
