Joni and her group at KBB once again provided all the food used to feed Santa and his Elves on Christmas Eve. That’s breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Thanks again to Joni and the group for helping make the Santa Express possible.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone. A belated thank you to the Hampton Family, Dennis, Val, Alaina and Matt Steinbugl for cooking breakfast and lunch for the elves while they decorated the apparatus. Even little Carter helped carry some radio equipment and hold doors for Mr. Prestia. Also, Elaine Prestia, for cooking the evening meal for a bunch of hungry elves when the Express was over.
The routes for the 2016 Christmas Eve Santa Express by the Alpha Fire Company can be found by clicking the links below.
You can also watch Santa in real time by going to the website aprs.fi from any Internet connected computer. If you find yourself in Helsinki, Finland on this site just put State College, PA in the appropriate block on the right and press Enter. Look for SANTAE and SANTAW. You might see the ELVES too, they are experimenting with a new toy.
We regret that we can’t go everywhere in the Centre Region because of time and space limitations (some of the sleighs are pretty big). We have a plan for responding to calls while the Express is moving but if there is a significant fire or other emergency (we hope not) Santa and the Elves have to answer the call to duty.2016 Santa Express Route EAST
2016 Santa Express Route WEST
The Alpha Fire Company plans to conduct the annual Santa Express again on Christmas Eve, 2016. The elves are tweaking the routes which we will publish on the website as soon as they are finalized. Expect a few minor changes as some of the ‘sleighs’ have difficulty crossing some locations. We wouldn’t want Santa to be delayed.
On the evening of December 17, 2016, Company 5 was called to a fully involved barn fire at a vacant barn along South Nixon Road. Engine 5-2 and Truck 5-1 deployed a hoseline along the side of the structure and Engine 3-1 from Boalsburg established a blitzfire line at the front of the structure. Engine 5-1 established a water supply and tankers from company 5 and company 3 kept a steady supply of water for engine crews.
Company 5 responded to a report of a balcony on fire extending into the apartment with possible people trapped. Asst Chief Harris (5502) arrived with smoke showing from side D of a 3 story garden apartment. The fire was located on the second floor balcony, and response was held to the units on the street.
510 stretched an attack line and extinguished the fire from the exterior while crews from 527 and 517 checked the interior for extension. 512 secured a water supply and 513’s manpower was sent to the scene.
The fire was contained with minimal extension into the exterior wall. Centre Region Fire Marshall’s Office was called to the scene to investigate.
Members of Company 5 hosted several Four Diamonds Families who were in town for the 2016 Penn State Dance Marathon taking place at the Bryce Jordan Center on campus this weekend. Families were shuttled to the downtown station on Engine 513, Truck 517, and Rescue 518 where they were treated to bucket truck rides, tours of the station and the apparatus, water games, and cookies. Each child got to try on bunker gear and take home a bag of Alpha Fire Company goodies as well as memories that will last a lifetime!
