Alpha Firefighters Clifford Lutz and Carmine Prestia took Quint 527 and Kubota 539 to the State College Borough Resource Fair on Saturday, October 5th between 11:00 and 14:00. The apparatus was wildly popular with children of all ages but mostly the younger set. They loved climbing on board, ‘driving’ the rigs, and touching and examining everything.
Adults asked a lot of questions about how we work and many are surprised to find that the Company is all volunteer. Two German natives were quite interested in the IFEX gun since it’s origin is German. They heard a detailed explanation from Firefighter Lutz. One man was astounded to find out that our membership includes PSU employees, police officers, students, a judge – people from all walks of life. Firefighter Prestia explained the history of the Company and how we maintain our memberships.
Membership applications were available on a table in the lobby of the Municipal Building set up with the Company information board. In addition to these displays Assistant Chief Kauffman in his role as COG Emergency Manager staffed a display on Emergency Preparedness.
Thanks to Elaine Prestia and Pete Weiss for the photos.

The Alpha Fire Co. congratulates two of its own members on completing a week long National Honor Guard Academy in Virgina. Truck Co. Capt. Randy Clouser and Engine Co. Capt. Benny DeArmitt completed the 40hr course yesterday. They are both long time members, officers and leaders of this Company. We extend them them our best and are looking to having them back to teach us what they’ve learned over the past week. Also, a special congratulations to Benny DeArmitt on winning the Commander’s Award for Excellence in his class. Great job guys. I guess its never too late to teach old dogs new tricks.
