At 10:30 PM the Alpha's were dispatched to 200 Oakley Dr. in Patton Township for a chimney fire.  Engines 510 and 512 responded quickly and while en route were advised that PD was on scene with no visible flame.  Engine 512 arrived on scene first and began investigating.  Soon after Engine 510 arrived and assisted the crew from 512 with the investigation.  As crews were inspecting the fire box and flu they found that flu was clear all the way through with debris only at the top and bottom of the flu.  There was no damage to the house as a result.  Units were on scene for approximately 1/2 hour and the box was placed available at 11:00 PM.

Busy Monday for the Alphas
Written by Joe Kriesher
December 3, 2007

On Monday, December 3rd, the Alpha’s were kept busy with multiple calls.  The day was started off with a vehicle fire and an automatic fire alarm.  Just before 4pm, Company 5 was alerted for a reported flue fire, with flames coming from the chimney in College Township. The call was determined to be unfounded.

Later in the evening, during the weekly work night, members were repacking hose when the company was dispatched to the Chemistry Building on the Penn State Campus for a fire in the elevator shaft.  Engines 510, 514, Trucks 516, 517 and Rescue 518 all responded promptly and arrived to find a smoke condition and fire on the 4th floor.  Crews from 516 and 518 extinguished the flames with a pressurized water can while crews from 514 and 510 stretched attack lines from the building's stand pipe system as a precaution.

Approximately two hours later the company was dispatched to the Metro Café on East College Avenue for a reported structure fire with flames showing inside the store.  510, 514, 516, and 518 responded and arrived on scene with fire on the counter. Crew from 516 extinguished it with a water can and performed Positive Pressure Ventilation.  The bunk-in crew finished up the night with another automatic fire alarm at a local fraternity.
