Wildfire in Marsh Lands PDF Print E-mail

On November 16th at approximately 11:30am the Alpha Fire Company was dispatched to a wildfire in College Township in the Marsh Lands adjacent to the bike trail along the college avenue exit of 322 east. The Crew of both 510 and 518, along with members responding to college station hiked the half mile to the scene of a large fallen burning tree. Utilizing several water cans, the local stream, and a chainsaw the crew extinguished the fire. Although the cause of the fire is yet unknown, an investigation is underway.  sdc10033

Fatal Car Crash PDF Print E-mail

On November 3rd, approximately 3:00pm, the Alpha Fire Company was dispatched to a vehicle accident with entrapment on I-99 North.  510, 514, and 518 responded and arrived on scene to find a wrecked vehicle nearly 75 feet off the roadway down a hill.  Crews from 510 stretched a line and provided fire control.  Crews from 518 extricated the victim with support from 514.

Shed Fire with Exposure PDF Print E-mail

On November 1st, approximately 3:00am, the Alpha Fire Company was dispatched to Linn Street for a reported shed fire.  510 responded and arrived on scene to find a fully involved shed fire with exposure to a house.  510 laid in, stretched a line, and extinguished the fire.  Crews from 516 and 514 arrived on scene and assisted with overhaul and support.

Small Fire at the Nittany Mall PDF Print E-mail

This morning the Alpha Fire Company was dispatched to the Nittany Mall at 2901 E. College Ave. in College Township for a building fire.  The caller stated there was smoke coming from the rear of the Hot Topic store.

State College Police arrived on scene first and confirmed a fire in a light fixture with the fire out.  Engine 510 arrived on scene and began checking the area for extension while the crew from Truck 517 set up ventilation.

The fire was contained to the area of the light fixture and no injuries were reported on the scene. 

Units operated on scene for approximately 45 minutes.

State College Park Structure Fire PDF Print E-mail

At 21:37 this evening, the Alpha Fire Company was alerted to a structure fire at State College Park Apartments, 348 Blue Course Drive. Initial reports indicated a stove fire with possible extension. An additional report from a neighbor across the street reported furniture on fire and smoke.  Engine 510 and Truck 516 responded immediately. Upon arrival, the engine crew entered the apartment and found a stovetop fire that had been extinguished with a fire extinguisher by the tenants. The truck crew assisted the engine in checking for extension and ventilating the structure.

Dumpster Fire with Exposures PDF Print E-mail

On October 21, 2008 at approximately 1900 Hours, the Alpha Fire Company was dispatched to the Penn State University Campus for a Dumpster fire with exposures in a parking lot of West Dorms. Engine 510 met University Police on scene and its crew promptly extinguished the fire, saving the surrounding vehicles and additional waste receptacles. Although the cause of the fire is unknown at this time, University PD are investigating.

CO Alarm, no Patients PDF Print E-mail

On October 20, approximately 10:00pm, the Alpha Fire Company was dispatched to the Lions Gate Apartments for a reported CO alarm with no patients.  Engine 510 arrived on scene and the crew proceeded to the third floor apartment, where the CO alarm initially sounded.  CO readings began to rise in the hallway.  The crew donned SCBA, entered the apartment, and found that the apartment was filling with CO.  The second and third floors were then searched and CO readings rose there as well.  The building was evacuated, the boiler shut down, and the building was then ventilated.  The crew of 510 rescued a small pug dog from the building.
