Storm Wreaks Havoc on Park Ave PDF Print E-mail
Written by Michael Breen
31-May-2007

At approximately 1600 hours a brief but strong storm passed through the Centre Region causing power lines and 12 poles to fall onto Park Ave between University Drive and Bigler Road. As the lines fell, 2 vehicles in separate locations were trapped under the wires.  The Alpha Fire Company responded to the call for wires down onto occupied vehicles. Crews from E510 assessed the occupants of the vehicles and determined they were in no immediate danger so long as they stayed in their vehicles.  Penn State Office of Physical Plant crews terminated the power to the lines, and once the lines were grounded and confirmed to have no energy, the occupants of the vehicles were safely removed.
