On Saturday, February 20 a large number of Alphas were on hand at the Borough Station to meet and greet children and families in town for THON activities. THON organizers asked Alpha to participate after several children requested fire station visits through Make-A-Wish. Each of our guests received an Alpha job shirt as a token of their visit. We were honored to be a part of this year’s THON activity; a truly worthy cause entirely managed by Penn State students.

Alpha's Open Refurbished Station PDF Print E-mail

On Monday evening, February 22 a well attended open house ushered in the grand opening of the newly remodeled College Township Station. Since 2003 the company has responded an engine from the lower level of the township municipal building; space that formerly housed the township’s public works garage. The township had been working on a phased fit-out plan for the fire company that would have been completed sometime in 2014. In April 2007, the company approached the township seeking acceleration of the fit-out. The township incorporated the fit-out into a long-term cost improvement plan for the entire municipal building and launched the project in the spring of 2009. The result is a live-in fire station with four live-in rooms, six non live-in beds, a full kitchen, and a lounge area. The live-in spaces were occupied on February 24. We thank College Township for completing this project.

Units from the Alpha's were requested to assist and stand-by in Lock Haven, Clinton County so that personnel from Clinton County could attend the funeral of Fire Police Officer Donald Mellott who was killed in the line of duty while operating at the scene of motor vehicle accident on February 13, 2010.

The Alpha's were honored to be able to accomodate this request and multiple personnel quickly volunteered for the detail and were able to fully staff Engine 512 and Truck 517 to provide service to the citizens of Lock Haven and to show our support for our fellow brethren in Clinton County.  Personnel also provided manpower with the use of Utility 522 and Chief's car 538.

In addition to the units standing-by in Lock Haven, Fire Police Unit 536 assisted with traffic control for the funeral procession.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and fire companies to which Officer Mellott was a member.

Today the Alpha's received a special call mutual aid assignment.  The Big Guy from the North Pole requested that the Alpha Fire Co. escort him around town this evening.  A day was spent by members preparing the apparatus for the special event.  Units with Santa on board left the station for a tour around the Centre Region giving the kids a special chance to see Santa before he made his stop in the area later in the night to deliver their gifts.

The Alpha's teamed up with QWiK Rock to provide the area with continual updates as to Santa's whereabouts.

Special Thanks to McLanahan's and Kohl's for their donations to make this event successful.
