In the evening hours
on September 9 as crews were doing house work, a group of Mount Vernon Fire
Department, New York firefighters arrived for the PennState vs Alabama game.
The guys that arrived didn’t take long to get acquainted as they began to cook
a delicious meal to serve about 25 that were in station that night. The
firefighters stayed at the Alpha Fire Stations over the course of weekend. On
Saturday the Alpha’s were greeted by members of Squad 252 and Rescue 4, FDNY,
who were on the front lines on September 11, 2001. The FDNY members were the
Honor Guard at the game. The firefighters of FDNY stayed until the early
morning hours of Sunday. On behalf of the Alpha’s we hope you all enjoyed your
time and appreciate the visit. Please see the link below that features FDNY at
PennState.

| Today beginning at 12:45 PM members of the community, the Alpha Fire Company, and elected officials took time to remember those lost on September 11, 2001. The ceremony included comments from State Represenatives Kerry Benninghoff and Scott Conklin as well as U.S. Congressman Glenn Thompson. At approximately 1:00 PM the bell tolled to honor those lost in the attacks. State College Borough Councilman and Centre Region Council of Governments Chairman Ron Fillipelli read aloud the Council of Governments 10th Anniversary resolution. Following the ceremony people were given the opportunity to visit with each other and reflect. |

The officers and members of the Alpha Fire Company would like to invite families, friends and community members to join us to “Stop and Remember” as we host a memorial service for the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001 as we honor the victims and the emergency personnel who gave their lives on that day. In honor of the armed forces serving our great country, we will be flying the American Flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol building and Camp Ramadi Iraq, the flag was carried by Firefighter Tom Hammond the entire time while on tour in Iraq. The remembrance service will be held this Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 1:00 PM in front of Station 5, located at 400 W. Beaver Ave in the Borough of State College.

| During the week of August 15, the Alphas contacted and met with representatives from Hurst, Holmatro and Amkus. The Alphas looked over the various updates and innovations in high-pressure extrication tools. Updates in vehicle construction along with advances in new metals have made it very difficult to dismantle vehicles during extrication incidents. The high-pressure tools along with advances in technology will make it easier for fire departments to work with these metals. A very special thank-you to John Tennis Towing for providing the vehicles to "demo" during the week! |
