On 08/14/08, six members of the Alpha Fire Company with Engine 512, attended a LODD funeral for brother Sean Whiten of the Roscoe PA VFC. Captain Whiten passed away during a training exercise at the Westmoreland County Training Academy on 08/09/08. Captain Whiten is a past Chief of the Roscoe Fire Company and currently served as their Captain. Sean was 46 years old and leaves behind a wife Linda and his son, Sean Robert. Sean was an outstanding educator and a very talented firefighter. A Firefighter's Funeral Service was held at the Stockdale PA VFC. Approximately 1100 firefighters, family and friends were in attendance. Rest in peace Sean, a man I considered to be a close friend and mentor through the years.

Medlar Field, State College
On Wednesday, July 30 The Alpha’s participated again in the annual “Super Splash Day” at Medlar Field, home of the State College Spikes, the class A short-season minor league baseball team affiliated with the Pittsburg Pirates. The event, geared to the team’s young and young at heart fans promises to cool off the crowd during a mid afternoon summer game.
This years game began at noon with summer school and summer camp students from around central Pennsylvania in attendance. School busses from as far away as Hollidaysburg were seen parked at the stadium.
Rusty Schreiner, the Regional Fire Administrator along with long time member and former truck captain, and Andrew Prestia took the 100 foot Tower 517 to the stadium to set up an water shower for the children to play in. The two arrived at the park around 10 am to set up the tower and lay almost 900 feet of 3 inch line from the nearest hydrant. The game between the Spikes and their New York Penn League rivals, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, began at noon with thousands of children in attendance. Despite the energizing fan turn out and support of the Alphas, the Spikes lost the nail biting game 7-6, but a fun time was had by all in attendance.
