At 00:29 Box 512 in Patton Township was alerted for a gas leak inside a building at Nittany Crossing apartments.

When units went responding they were advised that a hot water heater
had blown up and occupants could now hear the gas hissing. Upon arrival
Chief 504 (C. Prestia) assumed command and E513's crew did an
investigation and terminated the gas supply to the structure, while
E514 staged at the hydrant. The crew from T516 performed salvage
operations.
Units on the scene were Command 5 (534), E513, E514, T516,
and FP536. Company 5 operated at the scene for approximately 45
minutes.
