At 04:43 hours the Alphas were alerted to a building fire at 1010 S. Pugh St. with reports of smoke and flames showing from the second floor.

Police quickly began evacuation of the building leaving only an adjacent apartment occupied due to heavy smoke conditions. Alpha engine and truck crews arrived on scene together and went straight to work.

Truck 517's crew made entry into the occupied apartment adjacent to the involved unit and helped two residents and two dogs to safety. The truck was positioned for aerial operations and ladders were thrown for emergency egress.

Engine 510's crew hand jacked a supply line to a nearby hydrant and stretched a leader line for the attack. The fire was darkened down with a pressurized water can while a high rise pack was being deployed for complete suppression.

Quick actions saved lives and property containing the bulk of the fire damage to the apartment's kitchen area.
