At 4:01 PM the Centre County 911 center dispatched Company 5 to a possible gas leak at 445 Railroad Ave. in the Borough of State College. The complaintant was in the laundromat and smelled what they thought was natural gas and called 911.

3rd Assistant Chief C. Prestia (503), Engines 510 and 514, responded to the scene. Chief Prestia was first to arrive and found a strong odor of gas inside the structure. Engine 510 arrived shortly after and evacuated the remainder of the building and terminated gas to the structure from the outside.
Engine 514 arrived and took a gas meter to the second floor and had no readings and no odor of gas.
Columbia Gas was notified of the situation and crews remained on scene until their arrival.
All units were placed available at 5:01 PM.
