At approximately 13:36, the Alpha Fire Company was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with entrapment on North Atherton Street (U.S. 322) at Stevenson Rd in Patton Township.  Crews at the main station for a class responded rescue 518 and engine 510 within minutes.  Engine (squad) 514 responded shortly after.

536 with 2 fire police arrived on scene first and reported one vehicle on its side, off the road, one patient confined and one walking.  514, lead by firefighter Kauffman arrived on scene and established command shortly after the fire police report.

Crews found a Nissan X-Terra on its driver’s side after it apparently went off the road while going up hill and striking and snapping off a 10 inch diameter tree.  The Nissan landed on it’s drivers side.  Only one occupant was still in the vehicle when crews arrived.

Fire Police diverted west bound traffic on 322 to secondary roads and limited the east bound traffic passing the accident.

514 started stabilization, patient care and stretched a dry line for protection.  504 (Yocum) arrived on scene and assumed command.  518 and 510 arrived on scene simultaneously.  518’s crew finished stabilization with their struts and helped package the patient and removed him up through the passenger side window.

The patient was transferred to the care of Centre Life Link EMS (Co. 25) and crews started to take up.

As Co. 25 finished packaging the patient, both companies took another accident call along the 3300 block of the Mount Nittany Express Way (322 Buy Pass.)  500, engine 510 and rescue 518 preceded to the reported area to investigate while engine 512 responded from the College Township station.

Crews operated on the scene of the first accident for about 40 minutes and crews searched for the second accident for about 15 minutes but found nothing.

A weather front had passed through the State College area earlier in the day leaving a light dusting of snow and slush on the roadways.
