At approximately 04:32, the Alpha Fie Company and University E.M.S (Co. 20) were dispatched for a structure fire in Stone Hall on the University Park Campus of Penn State University. Stone Hall is a 5 story dorm building in the East Halls Dorm Commons on campus. Penn State PD was on scene reporting smoke and a large volume of water coming from the bathroom on the second floor of the building.

Engine 510, and Tower 517 arrived on scene and found a small fire in one stall of the bathroom. The fire was being held in check by an activated sprinkler. Crews completed extinguishment with a pressurized water can.
This call emphasizes the importance of Life Safety Sprinklers in college residences. Although the sprinkler did not completely extinguish the flames, it held the fire to a relatively small area and size allowing first, the police and then fire crews to safely evacuate all the residence of the dorm without injury.
Crews operated on scene for about 40 minutes.
