| At approximately 10:20 PM, the Alpha Fire Company was dispatched for a residential structure fire at 165 East Cherry Lane in Ferguson Township end of the College Heights. Stand by crew at the main station responded Engine 510 and Tower 517 within a few minutes. Chief Yocum (504) also went responding with Command 534.
Tower 517 and Engine 510 went up the dead end street and found smoke coming from a ranch style home. At 10:27 PM Tower 517 reported a working fire. Engine 510 laid a supply line and stretched the first hand line as the truck crew went inside. Chief 504 arrived on scene and established command. Chief Prestia (502) took operations |

Rescue 518 and Engine 514 arrived on scene shortly after and assisted with inside operations and stretched a second line to the ‘B/C’ corner of the building. Engines 512 (College Township) and 513 also responded along with Fire Police unit 536. Chief 504 requested a transfer from company 3 (Boalsburg Fire Company) to stand by at station 5.
Interior crews found heavy fire involving the bedroom in the ‘B/C’ corner of the residence with heavy heat and smoke damage in the halls. The fire had burned through the ‘C’ wall in the room. To alleviate the heavy smoke condition and to check for extension, crews also ventilated the roof.
504 marked control at 10:59 PM. Most units went available at 12:30 AM with the exception of Engine 510 which was needed on scene to help watch for hot spots and flair ups. Engine 510’s crew returned to station at approximately 1:30 AM.
Crews operated on scene for a little over three hours. The home was a rental property used by three Penn State students. The University was notified and will assist the students with temporary housing and other needs.
