This afternoon the Alphas were dispatched to the assisted living center on Rolling Ridge Drive for an automatic fire alarm. Upon arrival Command and crews from Engine 510 were advised of an odor and slight smoke condition on the 6th floor. 510's crew promptly reported to division 6 and confirmed initial reports, however could not find the cause in any of the apartments. As crews investigated, residents of the
6th floor reported there was a fire on a balcony on the 5th floor.
510's crew moved to Division 5 and determined the affected
apartment. Crews forced entry to the apartment with irons and found a pile of debris on fire on the balcony, with a resident from an adjacent
balcony attempting to extinguish it. The fire was knocked down with a pressurized water can and units operated on scene for approximately 30
minutes.
Captain 595 (Kuchmay) had command of 510's crew
Assistant Chief 502 (Chris Prestia) had the incident Command.
Units on Scene: Engine 510, Command 534, Fire Police 536
