At approximately 0500 hours in the Borough of Clearfield on Ray Street a loaded tractor trailer lost control and crashed through 3 houses.  The vehicle passed through the first house and came to rest inside the second and partially into the 3rd.  The 2nd house collapsed entrapping the driver inside the cab of the semi. The Clearfield Fire Department began calling upon many of the region's fire companies for mutual aid and at 0730 the Rescue Companies of Alpha Fire Company and the Bellefonte Fire Department (Logan Fire Rescue Engine 114) were summoned to assist in the specialized rescue.

518 responded with 8 volunteers and as many struts as could be fit onto the apparatus. The 42 mile emergency response took over an hour as 518 passed over several mountains and through the towns of Port Matilda and Phillipsburg.  As 518 arrived it was determined by command that sufficient manpower was on scene at that time and 518 was diverted to Clearfield Station 1 for staging and standby. 114 arrived a few minutes after 518 and received the same assignment.

The Alphas and the Logan's stood by at station 1 for several hours and 518 did not return back to State College until approximately 1300 hours.

As Crews unpacked the rescue and dressed down Company 5 was hit out again for a Building Fire at 821 Southgate Drive. 510, 514 and 516
responded and found a wall heater unit on fire.  The unit was extinguished and the company placed available shortly thereafter.

Later in the day the tones dropped again for a vehicle leaking fuel on the 200 block of University Drive near the Bryce Jordan Center. Crews found a small car leaking gasoline and mitigated the situation until the towing company arrived.

For this day the Rescue Company has now expanded its motto from "Region Wide" to "State Wide."
