As units from Company 5 were working to extinguish a large leaf pile fire in Patton Township the Alphas received a second call in their district at 1:30 am to Shady Drive in College Township with a report of chimney fire with extension into a dwelling.

Tower 516 promptly responded, followed by Engine 510 and Tanker 519 responding from the leaf pile fire.  As units were en-route, Centre County Emergency Communications advised that smoke was coming from the roof and not the chimney.  Tower 516 and Engine 512 arrived on scene with a one and half story dwelling with smoke coming from the roof.  Crews from 516 opened the roof utilizing chainsaws while crews from 510, 512 and 519 advanced attack lines up to the second division.  Crews from 510 and 310 pulled the wall around the chimney on the first division as a body of fire was encountered in the wall on the second division and the attic.  At this time command requested the second alarm.

Crews worked for over 2 hours extinguishing overhauling while Engine 111 (Bellefonte Fire Dept, Logan Fire Company), Tower 216 (Bellefonte Fire Dept, Undine Fire Company), and Rescue 818 (Pleasant Gap Fire Company) stood by at the Alpha Main Station. Apparatus finally cleared the scene at 4:00 am.
