On Thursday, April 2 at 15:00 hours CCECC received a call reporting a garbage truck on fire near the baseball field in the 1600 block of Bristol Avenue. Arriving on Engine 510, Chief 502 (Kuchmay) found the load smoldering deep in the truck. He quickly decided to escort the truck to the Solid Waste Authority transfer station to minimize risks associated with dumping the load onto the area surrounding the playing field. Engine 514, PSU Hazmat Chief 2000 (Gordon), and Alpha Chief 501 (Yocum) were diverted to the transfer station. The garbage truck arrived at the transfer station with E514 and transfer station equipment positioned and ready. The load was subsequently dumped and the fire was extinguished. Units returned to service at approximately 16:30 hours.
