At 0018 hours on 4-4-09 Company 5 was dispatched for a working barn fire.  Firefighter Benny DeArmitt advised duty officer 503 (Martin) of a working fire and total collapse via cell phone.  503 requested two additional tankers to the box. img_0111

Truck 516 was the first piece of apparatus on the scene. They positioned themselves to use their elevated master stream.  Engine 510 laid 1300 ft. of LDH half way back the lane.  With Engine/Tanker 1515 reverse laying back to the hard road.  Engine 510 supplied truck516 and multiple hand lines.  Engine 512 drafted out of a pond at the rear of the farm house.  They used this water to protect the farm house.  Engine 513 set up drop tank operations and supplied 510.  Engine 22 from Huntingdon county set up a fill site at the creek located at the corner of West Gatesburg and Marengo Road.  Engine 514 set up a second fill site on Tadpole Road. Firefighters were hampered by high winds.  Haz Mat company 20 was called to the scene to help with identifying some chemicals stored in the barn. There were 2 cattle and several pieces of farm machinery that were lost in the fire. The units on scene were placed in service at approximately 0830.

The Alpha Fire Co. would like to extend a special thank you to the Undines of Bellefonte (Station 2), Pleasant Gap (Station 8), and Milroy (Mifflin Station 7) for providing coverage to the State College area during this incident.  Also, thanks for helping with clean-up when we returned to station following the fire.

PD, State Police Fire Marshall.  Haz Mat 20. Ferguson Twp. Public Works. Ambulance 2752.  Fire police 536, Port Matilda Fire Police, and Bald Eagle Fire Police.
