On Saturday, September 12 at
approximately 22:12 hours CCECC dispatched Company 5 to the Ambassador
Building, 412 E Beaver Avenue for a building fire with reports of smoke issuing
from the door of an apartment on the top floor. Engine 510 and Chief 502
(Kuchmay) arrived within a minute and a half of dispatch and confirmed active
smoke with some heat radiated to the door. Engine 510 officer (Lesak 595)
requested the leader line into the stairwell as this building is non
sprinklered and has no standpipe. Upon forcing the door of the apartment, the
crew found a smoldering fire involving the stove with extension to the cabinets
above. Crews extinguished the fire, ventilated, and checked for extension. The
apartment tenant was not home at the time of the fire. The apartment suffered
moderate fire damage in the kitchen and heavy smoke damage throughout.
Units cleared at approximately 23:21 hours.
