At approximately 3:45 PM the Alpha Fire Co. was dispatched for a wildfire in the area of exit 73 of I-99 South. As units were responding they were advised that a FedEx truck was also possibly involved with its brakes on fire. Units arrived on scene to find a small fire in the median, a 1 acre fire on the embankment next to the southbound lanes, and a FedEx truck further south of the incident with a small brake fire.
Engine 510 was assigned the FedEx truck while Tanker 519 and 520, Engine 513, Brush 325, and Rescue 518 were assigned the fire on the embankment.
Other repsonding units were advised to stage on Fox Hollow Rd. to make access to the fire from the opposite direction, if needed.
Traffic travelling southbound was slowed during the incident causing delays and back-ups.
Units were clear of the scene after operating for approximately 90 minutes.
Special thanks to Boalsburg Fire Co. (325), Pleasant Gap Fire Co. (825), and Penn State's SRU for their assistance with this incident.
