Engine 514 and Rescue 518 then arrived and began stabilization of the vehicle and began to stage all available rescue equipment. Command then requested the next available heavy wrecker, bringing Eagle Towing to the scene. Utilizing their equipment crews were able to fully stabilize the vehicle. Vehicle stabilization was challenging due to the rocks that the vehicle was sitting on.
Once the vehicle was stabilized crews began extrication on the patient. Due to the severity of the entrapment additional rescues from Boalsburg and Pleasant Gap were requested to the scene. EMS also requested a helicopter to land at the hospital, the crew from Stat MedEvac was then transported to the scene.
Extrication of the patient took approximately 2 hours to complete.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.
Thanks to Boalsburg (318) and Pleasant Gap (818) for their response to the scene. Thanks to Bellefonte Engine 111 for their transfer to the Main Station.
