| At approximately 1130, Company 5 was dispatched for an explosion in a lab at the Materials Research Lab on Penn State’s Campus. Quint 527, Rescue 518, Truck 516 along with Penn State HazMat responded on the call. Units arrived on scene with nothing showing and performed recon to find the exact location of the explosion and to do a primary search of the building. Once these duties were performed the HazMat team went to work in full class A suits and gained access to room of origin. The interior crew deemed that the explosion occurred due to two bottles of chemicals mixing. There was minor damage and the incident was placed under control. Units from Alpha performed decon for the Hazmat team. Shortly after, the incident was scaled back to just the Hazmat team for clean up. Units from Alpha operated on scene for approximately one hour. |
