This afternoon shortly after 3:00 PM the Alpha Fire Co. was dispatched for an engine, truck, tanker, and rescue to assist Port Matilda with a working dwelling fire in Worth Township. Port Matilda Deputy Chief 1501 arrived on scene at 2097 Sunnyside Hollow Rd. to find smoke coming from the 2nd floor and attic with active fire on the 1st floor.
Engines 5712, 514, and 1510 were first arriving appartus. Engines 5712 and 514 stretched handlines to begin attacking the fire while 1510 nosed into a nearby pond to establish a water supply. Crews were met with heavy fire while making entry and where able to knockdown the fire on the 1st floor. Crews were pulled out of the structure due to the heavy fire above them. Truck 516 and a masterstream from Engine 5712 were placed in service to help to extinguish the fire on the second floor and attic area.
Once the bulk of the fire had been knocked down crews were able to re-enter the structure for overhaul operations and final extinguishment of the fire.
