At approximately 1:00 PM the Alpha Fire Company was dispatched to 101 Wyoming Ave. in Pine Grove Mills, Ferguson Township for a working dwelling fire with explosion. Assistant Chief S. Kauffman responded on the call as the duty chief and while enroute observed a significant amount of smoke from the area. At this time he requested a 2nd Alarm assignment, bringing a full house response from the Alpha's as well as Engine 310 from Boalsburg.
On arrival at the scene Assistant Chief Kauffman found a pick-up truck had crashed into the structure and the home had caught fire and become well involved. Due to heavy fire involvement he advised of a defensive attack. Engine 513 was first arriving and after establishing a water supply from a hydrant in front of the home began a defensive attack on the structure. Truck 516 arrived and began master stream operations.
The pick-up truck that had struck the home hit large propane tanks. According to the Centre Daily Times, one of the homeowners was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for observation. Unfortunately, the driver of the pick-up truck was deceased upon arrival of emergency units.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the Ferguson Township Police Department.
