At approximately 3:00 this morning Company 5 was dispatched for a building on fire at 218 S. Sparks St. in the Borough of State College, PA. Engine 510, Engine 514, Quint 527, Truck 517, Rescue 518 and 504(command) responded on the run with 20 volunteers. E510 arrived on scene and pulled a 200’ leader line to 150’ 1 3/4” line to the second level where they encountered smoke banked down to the floor. As this was being performed Q527 arrived on scene and assumed first due truck responsibilities. E514 laid out and secured E510 water supply. Crews made entry and located a kitchen off in an apartment on the second floor and extinguished the same. Crews conducted searches, opened up to check for extension, threw ladders and horizontally ventilated. Searches proved negative. All other units assisted and the box was placed available a short time later.
