Friday May 27th 2011: At 03:37 hours Company 5 was dispatched for a dwelling fire with fire in the attic. The overnight standby crews for Engine 510 and Tower 516 responded immediately with 10 volunteers, followed by Engine 514, Quint 527, Tower 517 and Rescue Squad 518 with 12 volunteers. Tower 516 arrived first to find smoke showing from the roofline and attic in a one story single family dwelling and requested the working fire dispatch. Engine 510 secured their own water supply and stretched a 1 ¾ hand line into the structure where they found moderate fire conditions while Truck 516 threw multiple ladders, completed a primary search, cracked the roof and found the seat of the fire holding it in check for the engine company with a can. Other crews arrived and assisted with ventilation, salvage and overhaul. All crews went ready and available at 5:53 hours. The cause of the fire was determined to be from a lightning strike.
