| At approximately 4:15 PM the Alpha Fire Company was alerted to a vehicle accident with possible entrapment in the 1900 Block of E. College Ave. in College Township. Centre LifeLink EMS and State College Police Department personnel arrived on scene first and advised of a vehicle off the roadway over an embankment with an adult female and an infant trapped inside. |

3rd Assistant Chief Tony Berrena arrived on scene and assumed command of the incident. Once Rescue 518 arrived crews began making access to the vehicle and the patients. Engine 514 arrived shortly afterward and began assisting with vehicle stabilization and patient extrication. Additional crew members from Engine 510 assisted with establishing a pulley/hauling system to assist with getting people and equipment up and down the embankment.
Due to the location of the vehicle crews flagged down a passing crane from Nevin Stitzer Crane Service. The crane operator graciously agreed to stop and assist at the scene of the accident and he setup for operations. The hook of the crane was lowered to and attached to the vehicle.
Assistant Chief Berrena also requested 2 additional heavy rescues to the scene for additional manpower due to the heavy entrapment and hot weather. Rescues 818 from Pleasant Gap and 318 from Boalsburg responded on the call.
Once both patients were extricated from the vehicle they were transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center by Centre LifeLink EMS.
The cause of the accident is not known and is currently under investigation by the State College Police Department.
The Alpha Fire Company would like to send its deepest thanks to Nevin Stitzer Crane Service for their willingness to assist at the scene.
We would also like to thank Boalsburg Fire Company and Pleasant Gap Fire Company for their response.
