At approximately 17:37 Company 5 was dispatched to 1405 S. Atherton Street in the Borough of State College for the reported building fire. Engine 512, Engine 514, Truck 516 and Rescue 518 responded on the run. E-512 arrived on scene of a 1 ½ story building with smoke showing and pulled the 200’ 1 3/4” pre-connect cross lay to the front door where they encountered smoked banked down to the floor with zero visibility. Crews located fire in the rear of the structure and made quick work of it. While the engine company was operating and opening up to check for extension, the truck and rescue crews performed searches, threw multiple ground ladders, ventilated horizontally and controlled utilities. Command held the scene to 2 & 2. Crews operated for just under an hour before returning to service.
As units were operating on the above fire, Centre County Communications alerted the Alpha’s for another reported building fire at the 1400 block of Martin Street in Ferguson Township. Units arrived on scene to find a 3 story multi-family dwelling with a small rubbish fire with minor extension to the outside of the building. Fire was placed under control and Company 5 went available from this location. |
