| At 15:56 this afternoon, Company
5 was dispatched to 241 East McCormick
Ave in the Borough of State College for a reported
working dwelling fire. Engine 510, Engine 512, Engine 514, Quint 527. Truck
516, Rescue 518 and Chief 500 responded with 30 volunteers. Engine 510 arrived on scene with a 1
story single family dwelling with smoke showing and layed out from a close by
hydrant to secure their own water supply, then pulled the 200’ leader line
and a 150’ high rise pack to make the stretch to the front door. Truck 516
arrived on scene right behind E510 and split crews. The exterior truck crew
threw multiple ground ladders, horizontally ventilated and secured utilities
while the interior crew also ventilated and performed searches. First in crews
encountered zero visibility and located a fire in the basement with the only
access through an interior stairwell. The lineman (FF Gottsch) made an
aggressive knock on the fire. Other incoming units pulled a back up line,
relieved first in crews, and began to open up and check for extension. Crews
operated on scene for approximately 2 1/2 hours to assist the Fire Marshall
before returning to service. |
