Second Assistant Chief J. Brown (502) responded
and was advised that it started out as a chimney fire and the house was
now filling with smoke. Engine 510 responded shortly afterwards,
followed by Truck 517, and Engine 514. Chief Brown arrived on
scene first and reported a one story single family dwelling with smoke
from the chimney. Engine 510 arrived on scene and its crew went
to work on the interior of the structure extinguishing the fire box,
while the crew from Truck 517 laddered the roof and checked the attic
space for extension. Upon investigating the wall area around the
flue it was determined that the wall needed to opened up. As
crews opened up the wall they were encountered by fire which was
quickly knocked down with a water can by the crew of Engine 514.
Crews continued to overhaul the area afterwards. Units were on
scene for approximately 2 hours.
