At 10:25, the Alpha Fire Company was dispatched to Osmond Street and Corl Street, near the Borough's maintenance shed for a dog trapped in a sinkhole. Resources from Company 5 responded to the scene to find a worried pet owner anxious for the return of her dog.

First on the scene was Command Officer 595 who reported a sink hole off of the road, and sounds of a distressed dog. Acknowledging the resources available to the community, Command radioed in for assistance from Borough Grounds Maintenance crews to help clear a path through the brush to the incident. As a precaution, Animal Control representatives were also summoned to the scene.

According to local news reports, the owner had been looking for her lost dog since early the prior evening. She was called by her friend who discovered the dog, and came to witness the rescue of her companion.

Several crew members had recently attendended the Basic Ropes and Riggings class, so assembling the safety rigging seen on the right was an immediate application of newly learned skills for some, and kept some of the more senior members in practice.

Once a pathway to the scene was cleared, and the safety rigging was assembled, a Firefighter descended into the sinkhole to find a very frightened dog, who was visibly happy to be rescued.

Spirits were high as the rescuer led the dog to its relieved owner.
