| At 15:27 hrs. Station 5 was alerted to Box 511 in the Borough of State College at 329 E. Beaver Ave. for a building fire. Safety Officer Yocum responded and was advised of a fire in apartment 204. Police arrived on scene and reported a heavy smoke condition on the 2nd division. Safety Officer Yocum arrived on scene and assumed Beaver Ave. command. |

Engine 510 arrived on scene and established a water supply and hooked into the sprinkler system. The crew entered the fire apartment and discovered that a spinkler in the closet had activated and kept the fire contained to the room of origin. The Engine crew was able to extinguish the remainder of the fire with a pressurized water can. Crews then established ventilation and began salvage and overhaul operations. Had it not been for the sprinkler in the apartment, the room of origin and the apartment itself would have sustained much more damage. Damage from the fire was contained to the location in which it started and the rest of the bedroom sustained smoke and water damage. There was also some water damage to the business below the fire room.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Centre Region Fire Marshal and the State College Police, however it is believed to be accidental in nature.
