Assistant Fire Chief, Operations and Training. This is a new career position within the Regional Fire Protection Program for the Centre Region Council of Governments (COG) and Alpha Fire Company (AFC). The AFC is a 100 member, all-volunteer department serving an urban/rural population of 90,000 in an area of 104 sq. miles, operating 18 vehicles from 3 stations and responding to 1,000+ incidents annually (no EMS). The service area includes State College Borough; College, Ferguson, Patton, and Benner Townships, and Penn State University. The Centre Region has all of the advantages of a university town including a wide variety of educational and cultural opportunities, Big Ten sports, world class hunting and fishing, and many other benefits. An Associate’s Degree (Bachelor’s preferred) from an accredited institution in Fire Administration, Fire Science, Public Administration or related field combined with five years fire service experience, three years as an officer in an organization with volunteer personnel, national Certification to Firefighter II and Fire Officer I required. Certification as a Pennsylvania State Fire Suppression Instructor required. Two years minimum experience in delivery of adult learning programs and two years experience as a driver/operator of fire apparatus are required.
