We Are Your Friends And Neighbors. The Folks You Work With. The People You See Around Town.
Our All-Volunteer Membership Has A Specific Structure. But We’re All In This Together.
Within our ranks lies a command structure and efficient member organization that leaves no stone unturned when it comes to providing emergency response services to the Centre County region and State College. And there’s a lot more to Alpha Fire Company than meets the eye.
Here you can learn a little more about our command and control structure, and how that stretches across 3 separate stations and 6 operational divisions. At the heart of it all lies a group of men and yes, women, who have taken an extra step in their lives to do more, and be more, within their community as an Alpha Fire Company volunteer.
Alpha Fire Company Membership Types.
Alpha’s Membership is segmented into groups of members and officers, each with unique responsibilities that vary across the organization. Once you join Alpha as a Volunteer, you will become eligible for one – or several – of these positions, as your desire and determination allow.
Did you know, for example, that becoming a member of the Fire Police within Alpha Fire Company is a completely separate kind of firefighter?
What’s most important for you to know is that each of our groups work together like fingers on a hand or gears in a transmission – as one unit – to protect and serve the communities in which we live, work and raise our own families.
Line Officers: These are our Chiefs, Captains, and Lieutenants – who lead our members in operations and training. Captains and Lieutenants are appointed by Chiefs after careful consideration that includes a peer review of qualifications, a written test, and an interview process.
Fire Police Officers: Captains and Lieutenants of the Alpha Fire Police maintain scene security and manage traffic during fire operations. They often receive sworn police powers and special training to support firefighting efforts at emergency incidents, and directly assist local and state law enforcement – all while being trained exterior firefighters themselves.
Executive Officers: These are veteran Alpha members who manage the administrative functions of the Company.
Firemen’s Relief Association Officers: These officers manage the State College Fireman’s Relief Association, a separate organization that provides for the welfare of our firefighters by funding insurance, training, and equipment.
Active Alpha Volunteer Fire Company Members: As our application demonstrates, there are all types of Alpha Members – local college students, residents, community leaders, business leaders and more. The best way to learn about how you can do more as an Alpha volunteer is to schedule a visit to our main station and talk to one of our members or officers.
